Week 1 Update

Classification and Basic Structure & Working Principle

Converting wind energy into electricity is clean, renewable and sustainable. Small wind turbine systems, with a capacity ranging from 50W to 10kW rotor diameter ranging from about 0.5m to 7m.

1. types of wind power generator

According to the position of rotor shaft of generator:

a. Horizontal axis rotor

The rotor shaft is parallel to the direction of wind and it rotates around the horizontal axis. The turbines are installed by radial direction and perpendicular to the rotating axis. The sails are mounted at an angle or are given a slight twist, so that the force of wind against them has two components, one of which, in the plane of the sails, causes rotation. This kind of power generator requires high speed wind to get start. And it will get high utilisation rate of wind energy.

b. Vertical axis rotor
Unlike horizontal axis rotor, vertical axis rotor rotates around the vertical axis. And the rotor shaft is perpendicular to the direction of wind. A great benefit of vertical axis rotor is that it can receive wind from any direction, so when the direction of wind changes, it has no need face to the wind.
